CARBONE OF AMERICA knows the highly
demanding conditions of the Aviation
Industry. Brushes will not work properly
without a good skin on the commutator.
the skin is made of carbon, copper oxide
and humidity. A good skin reduces the
friction coefficient and the brush wear
rate.
The lack of oxygen in high altitude prevents
the forming of a skin on the commutator. With
no skin the brush can last a few minutes. That
is what we call a "black
wear". The higher the altitude, the faster
the brushes will be wearing.
